Radio Warneford moved to it's current home in December 1999. Our modern studio complex consists of two main studios, a small office, a record library and rest area.

The two main studios are almost identical. Studio 1 is designated as the on-air studio while Studio 2 is used mainly for production work and training.

At the centre of each studio is an Alice Air 2000 stereo mixer equipped with 16 channels with 2 inputs per channel. There are 11 stereo line input channels for turntables, compact disc players etc, 4 mono microphone channels and 1 mono telco channel for phone-in work. Although the mixer outputs in stereo, the signal broadcast to the wards is in mono.

For the technophiles amongst you, each studio contains the following equipment:-

Studio 1

• 2 x Technics SL-1210 Mk2 turntables
• 2 x Technics SL-PG440A compact disc players
• 1 x Tascam DA-30 DAT player
• 1 x Denon DRM740 cassette player
• 1 x Denon DRM710 cassette player
• 2 x Mini Disc players
• 3 x AKG D222 microphones
• 3 x Canford Audio headphones
• 2 x Yamaha NS10M Studio speakers
• 1 x radio-controlled clock
• 1 x Phillips 14" television with teletext

Studio 2

• 2 x LAD turntables
• 2 x Technics SL-PG520A compact disc players
• 1 x Tascam DA-30 DAT player
• 1 x Denon DRM740 cassette player
• 1 x Denon DRM710 cassette player
• 1 x Sony Mini Disc player
• 1 x Sony Mini Disc player/recorder
• 3 x AKG D222 microphones
• 3 x Canford Audio headphones
• 2 x Yamaha NS10M Studio speakers
• 1 x radio-controlled clock
• 1 x Tandberg TD20A reel-to-reel tape machine

The DRM710 cassette machine in each studio can be used to 'log' programmes as well as to make continuous recordings.

The Record Library contains around 35,000 tracks including LPs, CDs and 7-inch singles.

We have more than 4000 7-inch singles which are stored in a bank of filing cabinets while the CDs and LPs are housed in open shelving along one wall.

The LPs are filed in sections related to their content e.g. pop music, female vocal, easy listening etc. CDs are similarly numbered. This allows presenters to locate records of a particular style, regardless of the artist or group.

Each track is catalogued on Radio Warneford's Record Library database allowing retrieval by artist, title or record number. Word searches can also be performed allowing records to be located from just one word or a complete phrase.

A separate in-house computer program allows us to enter the record numbers of all requests we have played and output the results in the form of a Top Ten Requests chart.
